Detailed Explanation

This beautiful supplication is a prayer for Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, and blessings, while beginning with praise and sending peace and salutations upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. 1. “In the name of Allah” — بِسْمِ اللَّهِ Beginning with the name of Allah reminds us that every good action should be started by seeking Allah’s help and blessings. It expresses reliance upon Allah and acknowledges that all strength and success come from Him. 2. “Peace and salutations upon the Messenger of Allah” — وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ This is a respectful salutation upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It teaches us to recognize our mistakes, turn sincerely toward Allah, and seek His forgiveness with humility and hope. 4. “And open for me the gate of Your mercy” — وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ This is a heartfelt request for Allah’s mercy. Allah’s mercy includes forgiveness, guidance, protection, blessings, peace of heart, and goodness in this life and the Hereafter.
