Jabal-e-Safa
Jabal-e-Safa is a small historic hill located within the precincts of Masjid al-Haram in Makkah. Along with Jabal-e-Marwah, it is one of the two hills between which pilgrims perform Sa'i—walking seven times during Hajj and Umrah. This ritual commemorates the faith and perseverance of Hazrat Hajra (Hagar, peace be upon her) as she searched for water for her son Hazrat Ismail (peace be upon him). Allah rewarded her trust by causing the blessed Zamzam Well to spring forth.
Destination Overview
Jabal-e-Safa (Mount Safa) is one of the two sacred hills located within the boundaries of Masjid al-Haram in the holy city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Together with Jabal-e-Marwah, it forms the route for the ritual of Sa'i, one of the essential rites of both Hajj and Umrah. Every year, millions of Muslims walk seven times between these two hills, following the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), the patience of Hazrat Hajra (AS), and the practice of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Although much of the original hill is now enclosed within the modern marble structure of Masjid al-Haram, a visible portion of the original rock remains preserved. Pilgrims begin Sa'i from Safa, facing the Holy Kaaba while reciting the prescribed supplications before proceeding toward Marwah.
