Subḥānallāhi wal-ḥamdu lillāhi, wa lā ilāha illallāhu wallāhu akbar, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāhil-‘Aliyyil-‘Aẓīm. Waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ‘alā Rasūlillāh, ṣallallāhu ta‘ālā ‘alayhi wa ālihi wa sallam. Allāhumma inna hādhā baytuka, wal-ḥaramu ḥaramuka, wal-amnu amnuka, wal-‘abdu ‘abduka, wa anā ‘abduka, wa hādhā maqāmul-‘ā’idhi bika minan-nār, fa-ḥarrim luhūmanā wa basharatanā ‘alan-nār. Allāhumma ḥabbib ilaynā al-īmāna, wa zayyinhu fī qulūbinā, wa karrih ilaynā al-kufra wal-fusūqa wal-‘iṣyāna, waj‘alnā minar-rāshidīn. Allāhumma qinī ‘adhābaka yawma tab‘athu ‘ibādak, Allāhumma urzuqnī al-jannata bighayri ḥisāb.
Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah; there is no deity but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest; and there is no power nor strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Almighty. Blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah—may the blessings and peace of Allah the Exalted be upon him and his family. O Allah, this is Your House, this Sanctuary is Yours, this security is Yours, and the servant is Yours—and I am Your servant. This is the station of one seeking refuge in You from the Fire; so forbid our flesh and our skin to the Fire. O Allah, make faith beloved to us and beautify it in our hearts; make disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience hateful to us; and place us among the rightly guided. O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants; O Allah, grant me Paradise without reckoning.
This beautiful supplication combines tawḥīd (oneness of Allah), praise of Allah, reliance upon Him, salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ, seeking protection from Hellfire, asking for strong faith, guidance, and entry into Paradise. It is especially meaningful when recited while remembering the sanctity of the Ka‘bah and the humility of a servant standing before Allah. 1. Meaning: Glory is to Allah, and all praise belongs to Allah. (Subḥānallāh) means declaring Allah completely free from every imperfection, weakness, injustice, or deficiency. (Al-ḥamdu lillāh) means that all perfect praise and gratitude belong to Allah. A pilgrim begins by recognizing the greatness and perfection of Allah rather than focusing on himself. Spiritual lesson: Before asking Allah for anything, remember who Allah is and acknowledge His greatness. 2. Meaning: There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. This is the declaration of Tawḥīd. It means that: Allah alone deserves worship. Allah alone is ultimately relied upon. Allah alone has absolute power. No person, object, wealth, or worldly power deserves worship alongside Him. For a pilgrim, this statement has profound significance because the entire journey of Hajj and Umrah is an expression of devotion to Allah alone. 3. وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ “Wallāhu Akbar.” Meaning: And Allah is the Greatest. Allah is greater than: our worries, our difficulties, our worldly possessions, our fears, our desires, and everything in creation. When a pilgrim says Allāhu Akbar, he reminds himself that nothing is greater than Allah. Spiritual lesson: Whatever difficulty you may face during your journey, Allah is greater than that difficulty. 4. Meaning: There is no power and no strength except through Allah, the Most High, the Most Great. This is an expression of complete dependence upon Allah. The pilgrim acknowledges: “I cannot worship properly, remain patient, avoid sin, complete my journey, or accomplish anything except through the help and strength granted by Allah.” It teaches humility and reliance upon Allah. 5. Meaning: And blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. This is a salutation upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The pilgrim remembers the Messenger ﷺ, who taught the Muslims how to worship Allah and perform Hajj and Umrah. It also reflects love and respect for the Prophet ﷺ. 6. Meaning: May Allah, Most High, send His blessings and peace upon him and his family. This completes the salutation upon the Prophet ﷺ. 7. Meaning: O Allah, indeed this is Your House. The pilgrim is acknowledging the Ka‘bah as the sacred House of Allah. The Ka‘bah is not worshipped. Rather, Muslims worship Allah, the Lord of the Ka‘bah. This statement reminds the pilgrim that he is standing in a place of extraordinary sanctity and should behave with humility, respect, patience, and devotion. 8. وَالْحَرَمُ حَرَمُكَ “Wal-ḥaramu ḥaramuka.” Meaning: And this Sacred Sanctuary is Your sacred sanctuary. The word ḥaram refers to the sacred area surrounding the Ka‘bah in which Allah has established special sanctity. The pilgrim therefore recognizes the holiness of the place and should avoid: harming others, arguing, abusive speech, sinful behavior, and disrespect toward the sanctity of the Haram. 9. وَالْأَمْنُ أَمْنُكَ “Wal-amnu amnuka.” Meaning: And security is Your security. The pilgrim recognizes that true safety and protection ultimately come from Allah. It is a beautiful reminder to place one's trust in Allah while seeking His protection from every kind of harm. 10. Meaning: The servant is Your servant, and I am Your servant. This is one of the most humble parts of the supplication. The pilgrim does not approach Allah with pride. He approaches as a servant (‘abd). Saying “I am Your servant” expresses: humility, submission, dependence, obedience, and complete need for Allah. The greatest honor of a believer is to be a servant of Allah. 11. Meaning: And this is the position of one seeking refuge in You from the Fire. The pilgrim recognizes his dependence upon Allah's mercy and protection. He is essentially saying: “I have come before You as Your servant, seeking Your protection from the punishment of Hellfire.” This creates khushū‘ (humility and reverence) in the heart. 12. Meaning: So make our flesh and our skin forbidden to the Fire. This is a powerful request for protection from Hellfire. The words flesh and skin represent the whole human being. The pilgrim is asking Allah: “O Allah, protect my entire body from the Fire and save me from its punishment.” It is also a reminder that worship should influence the entire person—not merely the tongue. 13. Meaning: O Allah, make faith beloved to us. This is a beautiful request. The believer does not merely ask to have faith; he asks Allah to make faith beloved to his heart. That means asking Allah to make: prayer beloved, Qur'an beloved, remembrance of Allah beloved, obedience beloved, good deeds beloved, and righteousness beloved. 14. Meaning: And beautify it in our hearts. The pilgrim asks Allah to make Iman beautiful and precious in his heart. True faith should affect a person's: thoughts, character, behavior, speech, relationships, and daily life. 15. Meaning: And make disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience hateful to us. This is the other side of the request. The believer asks Allah not only to make good deeds attractive, but also to make sins and disobedience detestable to the heart. Kufr — disbelief. Fusūq — wickedness and departure from obedience. ‘Iṣyān — disobedience and sinful conduct. The lesson is important: a strong believer should develop a heart that loves obedience and dislikes sin. 16. Meaning: And make us among those who are rightly guided. Ar-Rāshidūn refers to people who possess sound guidance and follow the right path. The pilgrim asks Allah to make him among those who: recognize the truth, follow guidance, make righteous decisions, avoid misguidance, and remain steadfast. 17. Meaning: O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day when You resurrect Your servants. This turns the heart toward the Hereafter. The believer remembers the Day of Resurrection and asks Allah for protection from punishment. It teaches us that the purpose of worship is not merely worldly comfort; it is preparation for meeting Allah. 18. Meaning: O Allah, grant me Paradise without reckoning. This is a heartfelt request for Jannah. The pilgrim asks Allah for the greatest everlasting blessing: Paradise. The phrase “without reckoning” expresses a sincere hope for Allah's immense mercy and generosity.
