Short Meaning

“O Allah, bless Muhammad ﷺ and his family, just as You blessed Ibrahim and his family. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, grant blessings to Muhammad ﷺ and his family, just as You granted blessings to Ibrahim and his family.”“O Allah, I ask for Your pleasure and Paradise, and I seek Your protection from Your anger and the Fire.”

Detailed Explanation

These two supplications express love for Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, praise of Allah, hope for His mercy, and seeking protection from His punishment. They are especially meaningful because they combine salawat (sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ) with a direct request for Allah’s pleasure and Paradise. 1. Sending Blessings upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ The supplication begins: “O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad…” This is a request to Allah to bestow His special mercy, honour, blessings, and praise upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his family. It reflects the believer’s love and respect for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and reminds us that sending salawat upon him ﷺ is an important act of worship. 2. Mentioning Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام The supplication continues by asking Allah to bless Muhammad ﷺ and his family as He blessed Ibrahim عليه السلام and his family. Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام holds a very honoured position among the prophets. His family was blessed with prophethood and righteousness, and his legacy remains central to the worship of Allah. By mentioning Ibrahim عليه السلام, the supplication asks Allah for abundant and lasting blessings upon Muhammad ﷺ and his family. 3. “Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious” “Innak(a) Hamīdun Majīd” declares two great attributes of Allah: Al-Hamīd — The One who is worthy of all praise. Al-Majīd — The One who possesses perfect glory, honour, and greatness. The believer acknowledges that Allah deserves all praise and that every blessing ultimately comes from Him. 4. Asking Allah to Bless Prophet Muhammad ﷺ The second part says: “O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad…” The repetition emphasizes the believer’s desire for abundant blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ and his family. It also teaches us to keep the Prophet ﷺ in our hearts and to honour him through salawat. 5. Asking for Allah’s Pleasure The second supplication begins: “O Allah, I ask You for Your pleasure…” This is a profound request. The believer is not merely asking for worldly success, wealth, comfort, or material blessings. The greatest goal is Allah’s pleasure (ridwan). When Allah is pleased with a servant, that is among the greatest forms of success. 6. Asking for Paradise The supplication continues: “…and Paradise.” The believer asks Allah to grant entry into Jannah, the everlasting home of reward. This teaches us to keep the Hereafter as our ultimate goal and to ask Allah for success beyond this temporary worldly life. 7. Seeking Protection from Allah’s Wrath The supplication then says: “And I seek refuge in You from Your wrath…” The believer recognizes that Allah’s displeasure is something from which protection should be sought. This part expresses humility and fear of Allah. A Muslim does not rely solely on hope but combines hope in Allah’s mercy with fear of His punishment. 8. Seeking Protection from the Fire Finally, the believer says: “…and the Fire.” This refers to seeking Allah’s protection from the punishment of Hellfire. The supplication therefore brings together two of the greatest requests a believer can make: Seeking Paradise and Allah’s pleasure and Seeking protection from Allah’s wrath and the Fire. 🌙 Overall Message Together, these supplications teach a beautiful balance of love, hope, gratitude, humility, and fear of Allah. The believer asks Allah to: Honour and bless Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his family. Grant abundant blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ. Recognize Allah as the One worthy of all praise and glory. Grant His pleasure. Grant entry into Paradise. Protect the believer from His wrath. Protect the believer from the Fire. In simple words: “O Allah, shower Your blessings upon Your beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his family. You alone are worthy of all praise and glory. Grant us Your pleasure and Paradise, and protect us from Your displeasure and the punishment of the Fire.”
