Destination Overview
Masjid Ali bin Abi Talib (RA) (مَسْجِدُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رضي الله عنه) is one of the historic mosques of Madinah Al-Munawwarah, located to the west of Masjid an-Nabawi ﷺ in the Al-Manakhah area. It is among the important historical sites visited by pilgrims and visitors to the Prophet’s City. The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah currently lists the mosque among Madinah’s religious and historical destinations and describes it as approximately 400 metres west of Masjid an-Nabawi.
Historical Significance
The mosque is associated with one of the traditional prayer grounds in the Al-Manakhah area, where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is reported to have offered Eid prayers and the prayer for rain (Istisqa). According to the Madinah historical-site guide, when Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA) later served as Caliph, he also led the Eid prayer at this location, and the mosque subsequently became known by his name.
The site therefore preserves an important connection with the history of worship in Madinah during the Prophetic period and the era of the Companions (RA).
