Destination Overview
Masjid Abdullah Ibn Abbas (مسجد عبد الله بن عباس) is one of the most historic and spiritually significant mosques in Taif, Saudi Arabia. It is dedicated to the memory of Abdullah ibn Abbas, the cousin of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), who is regarded as one of the greatest scholars of Islam. The mosque stands near the place where Ibn Abbas lived, taught Islam, and was eventually buried.
For pilgrims visiting Taif during their Umrah or Hajj journey, this mosque is an important Ziyarat destination because of its deep connection to Islamic scholarship and early Islamic history.
Historical Significance
Abdullah ibn Abbas (RA) was known as "Tarjuman al-Qur'an" (The Interpreter of the Qur'an) because of his exceptional knowledge of the Qur'an and Hadith. He settled in Taif during the later years of his life and became a leading teacher of Islamic knowledge.
After his passing in 68 AH (687–688 CE), he was buried in Taif. The mosque was later established near his resting place and has since become a respected site for Muslims wishing to remember one of Islam's greatest scholars.
Although visitors may visit the area to reflect on Islamic history and offer prayers in the mosque, Islamic teachings emphasize that worship and supplication should be directed to Allah alone.
